A man has married a fictional computer-synthesised pop singer who has been on tour with Lady Gaga.

The fascinating story of Akihiko Kondo - The man who married a hologram

A Japanese guy named Akihiko Kondo made news in 2018 when he wed a hologram. Kondo, a 35-year-old school administrator, wed Hatsune Miku, a virtual reality singer. A well-known figure in Japan named Hatsune Miku is represented as a 16-year-old woman with long turquoise pigtails.

Since marriages in Japan must be between people, Kondo and Hatsune Miku's union was not recognised by the law. However, Kondo wed his hologram bride in a small gathering of people and even bought her a $2,800 wedding band.

In Japan, a discussion regarding the growing practise of people having romantic connections with fictional characters was started by Kondo's unconventional marriage. Some expressed worry that these relationships would replace genuine human connections, while some saw Kondo's marriage as a cute display of his affection for the character.

Akihiko Kondo and his wife Hatsune Miku had been in a relationship for 10 years before they got married in an unofficial wedding ceremony back in 2018.
