On Pompeii, Cate Le Bon compliments her dreamy art pop with jazzy rhythms and bass lines inspired by Japanese city pop. Cate Le Bon started working on Pompeii early in the pandemic, writing most of the songs in isolation. The production reflects feelings of solitude, with minimalist compositions, centred around bass, piano, and textural synths. Pompeii is introspective, considered, and exquisitely executed.
