Give your next gathering a delicious treat with Forbidden Doughnuts! Our easy-to-follow recipe will guide you through the steps to making fluffy, gooey doughnuts that are irresistible. Enjoy with friends, family, or all by yourself when a sweet tooth strikes!
Gather the Ingredients and Supplies.
To make the Forbidden Doughnuts, you will need: all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, vegetable oil or melted butter, egg, and one cup of warm milk. You will also need a cast iron or heavy skillet for deep frying and two mixing bowls for combining the ingredients. Have all your ingredients prepped and ready to go before you start cooking!
Prepare the Doughnut Batter.
Begin by combining the dry ingredients in one bowl – that is, the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. In another bowl whisk together the wet ingredients – that is, the vegetable oil or melted butter, egg and warm milk. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk until just combined. Do not over mix; some small lumps of flour are ok. Let the batter rest for 15-20 minutes before you cook.
Fry the Doughnuts in Oil.
Heat about 1” of oil in a medium saucepan or deep fryer, and make sure the temperature is between 325°F to 350°F. Using two teaspoons drop or pipe (using a pastry bag) the doughnuts into the hot oil. Fry up to nine at a time, flipping them once after about one minute or until golden brown on both sides. Remove from the fat using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels before serving.
Make the Glaze and Toppings of Your Choice.
Now that you’ve got your freshly fried doughnuts, it’s time to glaze and top ‘em! To make a simple vanilla glaze, mix together 1 cup of icing sugar with 2 teaspoons of milk, 2 tablespoons of melted butter and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Feel free to go crazy with toppings – think crushed nuts, sprinkles or anything else that takes your fancy!
Serve and Enjoy!
Now comes the best part - all that's left to do is give each guest a lightly glazed, hand-crafted doughnut. Make sure you serve these irresistible treats when they’re still warm – they're sure to be devoured in seconds! Enjoy your delicious Forbidden Doughnuts and impress everybody at the gathering with this unique, finger-licking treat.
