Built around four tracks and crafted for the dancefloor, Makelelo (Origins) opens with the dark and atmospheric energy of previous offering, ‘The Seeker’. New single, ‘Run With It’, combines afro-centric vocal chants and percussion with hypnotic synth patterns, underpinning KILIMANJARO’s bold rallying call. Recent single, ‘Come Towards The Light’, also features and has since gained strong BBC Radio 1 support from Jack Saunders, Sarah Story, Sian Eleri, Jaguar & Arielle Free; meanwhile the irresistible club ready ‘We Are Love’ rounds off the EP.
Having a long and storied background in music, KILIMANJARO’s roots can be found playing in bands across Scotland and later pivoting to performing DJ sets within the country's renowned clubbing landscape. After years of DJing the Scottish circuit in Glasgow and Edinburgh, KILIMANJARO moved down to London to establish himself and find a footing in a city that’s been leading the way in electronic music for decades. These moments were pivotal for the artist as he crafted and built his sound. KILIMANJARO then cultivated a loyal following as his name began to resonate. In 2021, he launched KILIMANJARO MUSIC at La Cheetah in Glasgow, which focused on championing black, POC, female and other marginalised artists across the UK, something he continues to do to this day.
KILIMANJARO’s charismatic performances led to streaming appearances on DJ Mag and Mixmag last year. Still, his Boiler Room set alongside Fred Again.. in 2022 helped introduce him to a global stage. To close out a tremendous 2024, KILIMANJARO made his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix debut, joining a whole host of revered DJ’s and producers for the seminal series. KILIMANJARO is back on the road already, having just performed in North America, Mexico City and India for club shows and festival appearances this year. He recently dropped a compelling remix of Moby’s ‘Where Is Your Pride’featuring revered poet Benjamin Zephaniah and hosted four intimate pop-up parties in New York, London, Bristol and Glasgow to celebrate his new EP. Next month, KILIMANJARO will go B2B with Skream at Nowhere in Manchester before headlining the Main Room at London’s Fabric on 4th April.
