Olivia Dean Drops New Visuals for Single 'Time

Multi-BRIT and Mercury-nominated singer-songwriter Olivia Dean releases the brand-new visuals to her recently-released single, ‘Time’, via EMI Records. The single and video follow the success of her 2023 debut album, Messy.

Directed by Jake Erland (SHYGIRL, Rachel Chinouriri, Beabadoobee), and filmed in the unique setting of Heathrow Airport, the visuals see planes soaring overhead, adding an extraordinary visual element to the experience of the track. Encapsulating a bold sense of freedom, ‘Time’ is a song that has already captivated listeners with its compelling lyrics and melody, and now comes to life through Erland's visionary direction. The backdrop of the airport, with its constant flux of arrivals and departures, serves as a poignant metaphor for the song's themes of change, movement, freedom, and the passage of time.

Akin to the track, the video is a seamless, continuous take that flows with Olivia’s performance. We see her integrating her band into the visuals as the 25-year-old singer effortlessly melds into her natural element. The collaboration between Olivia and Erland has resulted in a visually stunning and emotionally charged music video that complements the essence of the song; it showcases a soulful performance, enhanced by the dramatic and atmospheric setting.

Speaking on the video Olivia said: "I wanted to find a concept that visualised the frustration of having to work through life’s interruptions. My manager and I were thinking about how much our lives are dictated by travel and thought it would be funny to perform under a plane taking off and the chaos it would cause. Health and safety said no, so Jake [Erland] went on a plane spotting mission to see how close we could get to it. There were so many elements in our way which made the process feel challenging and alive, but Jake was really fun to collaborate with - I’m really proud of what we made.”

Premiered at her triple-sold out London Hammersmith Apollo headline show, and released nearly a year after her breakout album, Olivia continues to showcase her effortless versatility. 'Time' draws inspiration from the melodic styles of British superstars such as David Bowie and The Beatles, and lyrically hones in on subjects Olivia has touched upon before - love, growth and change. Emulating the rock sound of music legend Tina Turner, ‘Time’ infuses a fresh rock element into her music, with a heavy electric guitar component which can be seen as a departure from previous tracks such as 'Ok Love You Bye', from her debut 2021 EP, Love Songs 2021.

2024 has been incredible for Olivia, with three BRIT Award nominations, a cover on POP Magazine and Vogue Singapore, a feature in British Vogue’s July issue, a debut performance at Coachella Festival, a European and UK tour including three sold-out dates at London’s Hammersmith Apollo (with 35,000 people on the waitlist), a performance at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, a stunning pyramid stage performance at Glastonbury and Japan’s Summer Sonic - as well as her first festival headline slot at Love Supreme Festival.

With over 3.5M+ monthly listeners on Spotify, Olivia's sound and talent have established her as one of the UK's most exciting artists. ‘Time’ as a single and visuals, only go to further showcase her musical aptitude and introduces a refreshing sound to her repertoire.
