Bagent was born and raised in Martinsburg, West Virginia. He attended Martinsburg High School, where he was a three-year starter at quarterback. Bagent led Martinsburg to the state championship game in his senior year.
After high school, Bagent signed with Shepherd University, a Division II school in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Bagent redshirted his freshman year, and then he took over as the starting quarterback in his sophomore year.
Bagent had a stellar college career at Shepherd. He set numerous school and Division II records. In his senior year, Bagent passed for 5,000 yards and 53 touchdowns. He was named the PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year and won the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is awarded to the best player in Division II football.
Bagent was not drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent. Bagent made the Bears' roster out of training camp, and he served as the backup quarterback to Justin Fields during the regular season.
