Wretch invites listeners to delve into a deafening silence that speaks volumes. In a world drowning in noise, he urges us to pause, listen, and reflect.
Each moment of silence is meticulously crafted and serves as a profound reminder of our collective duty to confront and dismantle societal injustices and unravel the threads of societal discord to pave the way for rebuilding communities torn apart by prejudice and hate.
This isn't just art—it's a call to action, a beacon of hope for a better tomorrow.
The artwork depicts a key moment for Wretch when footballer Romelu Lukaku received racist abuse on the pitch at a Juventus game. Romelu scored a penalty in the game. Before, during and after the penalty, he was subjected to hostile and disgusting racist abuse. Romelu celebrated in the same manner he has previously celebrated goals. The referee’s response was to award a yellow card to Romelu.
“The world is so loud that sometimes you have to add to the noise with silence, we all need to stop, pause, listen, think and reset, I use these moments to do just that.
I hope that the holes that I pick in society can be used to rebuild the community…”
