Dior presents the Beachwear Capsule for the Dior Fall 2023 collection, in collaboration with environmental organization Parley for the Oceans
For the second year running, Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Dior's men's collections, has teamed up with Parley for the Oceans, an environmental organization and collaboration network taking action against major ocean threats, with a strategy called Parley AIR : Avoid, Intercept, Redesign. Together, they have conceived a committed Beachwear Capsule that reflects the House's desire to move towards a more eco-innovative, sustainable future for fashion.
This project was inspired by the deep, unbreakable ties that unite Dior with nature, born of Christian Dior's passion for flowers and gardens, but also for the sea : a fascination cultivated from his childhood, lulled by the songs of the waves in Granville. Sharing this love and will to preserve the beauty of the undersea world, Kim Jones used responsible materials for this collection, composed of 96% recycled fabrics.
Driven by a desire for eco-innovation, the two partners - Dior and Parley - started a joint research project in 2019, which has given life to new yarns and fabrics designed from Parley Ocean Plastic®, created with upcycled marine plastic debris and fishing gear recovered from coastlines and remote islands around the world*. The material then was reworked in Dior's ateliers; a challenge for the artisans who, from this upcycled alternative to virgin polyester, created high-quality fabrics, such as seersucker, silky knit and a technical fabric punctuated with the Dior Oblique motif adorning the Dior Aqua mini bag.
Like an ode to the Maison's inventiveness, these singular pieces are made ever-more sublime by a palette of joyful shades, from coral to lemon, with a contrasting cameo of gray - Monsieur Dior's favorite color. In turn, iconic motifs such as the Dior Italic or the CD Diamond embellish these unique models. An undersea shot, celebrating the splendor of the aquatic universe, is printed on the outfits, including surf wetsuits using recycled jerseys made with VISSLA, and a stole.
Combining comfort and elegance, technicality and refinement, this wardrobe is made up of essential, mix-and- match pieces: shorts, pants, tees, polo shirts and sweaters become adventure-ready accomplices. A reversible jacket and an openwork tank top with the “Dior” signature complete this exceptional selectionThe ultimate surprise is a surfboard designed with the Notox brand, featuring cutting-edge technical properties, embodying the values of innovation dear to Dior.
Fusing desirability and sustainability, this Beachwear Capsule is the fruit of a new alliance looking to redesign the fashion of tomorrow by changing the creative methods and mindsets, through the agency of preserving nature.
