"DARKDENCE" pushes the decadent and dark mood to the max. The first thing that came to designer Arashi Yanagawaʼs mind was the Sedlec Ossuary in Kutná Hora, Czech Republic, which he visited in 2016. The chapel filled with human bones, has an icy cold atmosphere. Other inspirations such as Anselm Kieferʼs artworks, the “Hill of Crosses” in Šiauliai, Lithuania, are all intricately intertwined to sublimate this collection.
Thorough attention was put into the texture of each piece of clothing: bleached black katsuragi denim, velvet embossed with permanent wrinkles, pebbled leather that express aging, military style sweaters with disconnected body and sleeves... By making full use of processing technology, tranquil white color of human bones, and dried look of rock walls and stones were recreated. The uneven textures seen in vegan suede bomber jackets, laced shirts, and hoodies, and moire-patterned jacquard textiles are all in sync with this collections theme. The graphics resembling cracked marble, created by long term collaborator and art director duo, AHONEN & LAMBERG, add depth to the entire collection.
