Loewe Announces Crafted World Exhibition In Shanghai

LOEWE announce the house’s first major exhibition, Crafted World, which will take place at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre in Spring 2024.

A celebration of the house’s rich history, Spanish heritage, and commitment to the handmade, Crafted World offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in LOEWE’s world. Curated by LOEWE’s creative director Jonathan Anderson and steeped in art and culture, the landmark exhibition takes the audience on a journey through the iconic designs and cultural collaborations that have illuminated the brand’s evolution from its founding as a leather-making collective in Madrid in 1846 to becoming one of the world’s leading luxury fashion houses.

Spanning 178 years of creativity and innovation, from LOEWE’s appointment as an official supplier to the Spanish Royal Crown, acquisition by LVMH and establishment of the LOEWE Foundation in the 20th century, to the opening of the first LOEWE store in China in 2001, the house’s rejuvenation by Jonathan Anderson and the founding of the LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize in the past decade, Crafted World is a showcase of the progressive approach to fashion and the culture of craft over generations.

An interactive journey through time, space, material and techniques of making, Crafted World unfolds over 1,600 square metres of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre and features plenty of artifacts and artworks along the way. The exhibition transports the audience to the sights and sounds of Spain, the front row of the Paris runway, and, in a series of spectacularly interactive rooms, inside the visionary imaginations that have inspired LOEWE’s recent collections. It’s a story dedicated to the joy of making things by hand, shared by a community of craftspeople and collaborators from around the world, from Indian ribbon-makers and Ecuadorian tapestry artists to South African basket-makers and Chinese bamboo weavers, that goes behind the scenes to reveal the many steps needed to bring LOEWE’s iconic designs to life.

Crafted World runs from 22 March to 5 May 2024 before travelling worldwide. The exhibition is open to the public, and entrance is free.
