This week, rumours emerged that David Lynch was premiering a secret film, starring Laura Dern, at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, which runs from 17-28 May. David Lynch last feature film was Inland Empire back in 2006, although he directed all 18 episodes of Twin Peaks: The Return in 2017, as well as a number of short films.

Yesterday during the Lynch’s engaging weather reports, the Eraserhead director said that he did not  have a new film coming to Cannes. “by the way, I don’t have a new film at the Cannes film festival this year,” he said before signing off. “Everyone, have a great day!”

+ while promoting the theatrical re-release of his last feature film, 2006 inland Empire, Lynch said. “I don’t have any new films coming out,” he added Entertainment Weekly In an excerpt published Tuesday, “It’s unfortunate. It’s made up that people thought, ‘Oh, that would be cool.’ But there’s something new, but it’s not mine. I don’t know whose it is. They say there’s something new at Cannes, and they don’t say whose it is, and some people thought it was my film, But it is not. So we will wait and see, and see whose it is.”

Will Wisteria (or Unrecorded Night) the next time we’ll see the Master behind the camera. It’s  unclear as to what Wisteria is, a show a film - or both. Or a short like the David Lynch interrogates a monkey movie, What Did Jack Do?, which premiered in 2020.
